Alexis Pittenger is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Ohio. Services include the assessment of and treatment of children and adolescents, with a focus in the area of neurodevelopmental and emotional/behavioral disorders. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Pittenger was a staff psychologist in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pittenger is excited to be a part of Child and Adolescent Psychology Associates (CAPA) and to continue to serve families in the Cincinnati area.
Dr. Pittenger earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology (MA) and a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree from Xavier University. As part of her graduate training, Dr. Pittenger participated in the Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Pittenger has had extensive training working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She completed an internship at the May Institute, in Boston, Massachusetts, which included work with children and adolescents with autism as well as individuals with traumatic brain injury. After graduating from Xavier, Dr. Pittenger completed two post-doctoral training programs through the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. The first of these, a position in the Pediatric Developmental Disorders Clinic, involved work with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families. This experience served to reinforce Dr. Pittenger’s interest in a behavioral approach to treatment. The second position was a two-year fellowship focusing on assessment training in Kennedy Krieger’s Neuropsychology Department and the Center for Autism and Related Disorders.
Dr. Pittenger believes strongly in the importance of an evidence-based, family-centered approach to care. While much of Dr. Pittenger’s work is focused on the child or adolescent, she believes that collaboration with parents and other caregivers is vital to the success of treatment. Dr. Pittenger is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Ohio Psychological Association. She also is a Board member of the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology. She currently lives in Cincinnati with her husband, two children, and many pets.
