Carrie Piazza-Waggoner, Ph.D.

Dr. Carrie Piazza-Waggoner is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Cincinnati, Ohio, specializing in pediatric and health psychology. With 13 years of experience at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology (BMCP), she provided essential psychological care through the medical inpatient consultation and liaison service. From 2013 to 2016, Dr. Piazza-Waggoner served as the Director of this inpatient CL service, gaining valuable insights into the needs of patients in the community.

As one of the leading psychologists in Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Piazza-Waggoner focuses on numerous areas including coping with new medical diagnoses, managing chronic illnesses, improving adherence to medical regimens, pain management, and addressing anxiety and depression. She also supports patients dealing with psychological and medical trauma and offers parent support and grief counseling. Collaborating with various medical divisions in the hospital, Dr. Piazza-Waggoner has worked closely with patients with diverse medical needs and diagnoses and now enjoys extending these critical services to the community in an outpatient setting.

Since 2017, Dr. Piazza-Waggoner has been dedicated to providing therapy in the community, allowing her to offer her specialized services as a psychologist in Cincinnati, Ohio. She provides both individual and family therapy to children and adolescents coping with acute and chronic medical conditions, depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship issues, LGBTQ support, and grief/loss.

Dr. Piazza-Waggoner graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Biology. She then completed her graduate studies at West Virginia University, earning her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology, with a focus on Health Psychology. She completed her internship and residency, along with a two-year fellowship at CCHMC in the Division of BMCP before joining the faculty in 2006.

Dr. Piazza-Waggoner is an active member of the American Psychological Association, Division 54 Society of Pediatric Psychology, and Ohio Psychological Association. Additionally, she serves on the Alumni Board of Advisors for Denison University. Having grown up in the Cincinnati area, she currently resides in Montgomery, Ohio, with her husband and their two sons.
