Carrie Piazza-Waggoner, Ph.D.

Dr. Carrie Piazza-Waggoner is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in pediatric and health psychology. During her 13 years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology (BMCP), she provided psychological care on the medical inpatient consultation and liaison service. From 2013-2016, Dr. Piazza-Waggoner was the Director of this inpatient CL service. 

Dr. Piazza-Waggoner specializes in many areas including coping with a new medical diagnosis, coping with a chronic illness, improving adherence to medical regimen, pain management, anxiety, depression, psychological and medical trauma, and parent support/grief. Dr. Piazza-Waggoner has worked closely with patients with a wide range of medical needs and diagnoses; collaborating with most medical divisions in the hospital. Dr. Piazza-Waggoner now enjoys providing these services to the community in an outpatient setting. 

Dr. Piazza-Waggoner has been providing therapy in the community since 2017. She enjoys being able to provide her specialty services to the community in an outpatient setting.  Dr. Piazza-Waggoner provides individual and family therapy to children and adolescents related to acute and chronic medical conditions, depression, anxiety, coping and stress management, relationship problems, LGBTQ, as well as grief/loss. 

Dr. Piazza-Waggoner graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Biology. She went on to complete her graduate work at West Virginia University where she earned her Master’s Degree in Child Clinical Psychology and her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Health Psychology. She completed her internship/residency as well as a 2 year fellowship at CCHMC in the Division of BMCP prior to joining the faculty in 2006.

Dr. Piazza-Waggoner is a member of American Psychological Association, Division 54 Society of Pediatric Psychology, and Ohio Psychological Association. She is on the Alumni Board of Advisors for Denison University. She grew up in the Cincinnati area and currently lives in Montgomery, Ohio with her husband and their two sons.
