Dr. Samantha Cook is a clinical psychologist who graduated from Xavier University with a doctorate in clinical psychology. Her training has focused primarily on supporting children, adolescents, and their families. Her predoctoral internship was in a community mental health center in Canton Ohio. She stayed with the organization for her postdoctoral fellowship facilitating treatment for children and adolescents in the trauma focused day treatment program. She further spent time as the coordinator of assessment services and later associate director of clinical services at University of Cincinnati’s Counseling and Psychological Services where she spent 7 years.
Dr. Cook is skilled in a variety of therapeutic approaches and theories. She utilizes techniques and conceptualization from Family Systems Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Liberation Psychology. Through these theoretical conceptualizations, she uses a combination of exploration of the systems in which we live starting with the individual/family and expanding to societal expectations. This allows the opportunity to consider how we approach direct coping skills derived from the ACT, CBT and DBT approaches.
Dr. Cook is able to treat a wide range of concerns, but particular areas of interest include identity formation, LGBTQ+ issues, race based stress, trauma informed therapy and concerns related to traumatic experiences, family therapy, parenting concerns, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She provides assessment (including children, adolescents, and adults) of personality testing, academic achievement, ADHD, and general diagnostic clarification. She utilizes assessment as a tool advocating to support clients in their life journey. She serves individuals ages 6 through adulthood.
Dr. Cook is a believer in supporting affirming care for clients in part because it is so important to her personally. As a mother, she lives her life embracing strengths and turning “weaknesses” into superpowers. She loves to try new things and is currently trying her hand at painting, gardening, and hiking with her kids.
